What is a hybrid letter?

A hybrid letter combines the best of both worlds: it is submitted digitally and delivered either digitally or physically – depending on the recipient’s preference. This allows maximum flexibility for both senders and recipients.

How does the hybrid letter work?

Digital submission

The sender submits the letter via ePost – using SmartSend in the web client or via an API integration.

Address check

ePost checks how the recipient prefers to receive the letter.

Digital delivery

The letter is delivered digitally via the ePost app or to a connected customer portal.

What is a digital letter?

A digital letter is more than just a PDF.

It can contain structured information that can be processed directly – such as invoices, contracts or interactive forms. Delivery is secure, encrypted and sent precisely to the intended recipient via ePost.

The ePost App – Switzerland’s official digital mailbox

With the free ePost app, you receive digital letters at your physical address – but in digital form. Your letters are secure, always accessible, and easy to archive.

Optionally, you can activate the scanning service (paid): your physical mail is forwarded to a scanning centre, digitised, and delivered to you as a digital letter. This means all your mail becomes digitally accessible – regardless of the sender.

Neue Versandoptionen – perfekt für Ihre Bedürfnisse

SmartSend bietet Ihnen jetzt mehr Auswahlmöglichkeiten:
 
  • Intelligenter SmartSend Versand: Die beste Zustellungsart wird automatisch ausgewählt (ePost, physische Post oder eBill).

  • Einschreiben: Neu können Einschreiben auch ins Ausland versendet werden.

  • A-Post Plus: Für wichtige und termingebundene Sendungen inklusive Sendungsverfolgung.
Legen Sie im nächsten Schritt die gewünschte Frankatur fest. Diese wird verwendet, falls der digitale Versand nicht möglich ist. Zur Auswahl stehen A-Post, B-Post und B-Post Mengenversand (ab 350 Empfänger).

Advanced delivery options for senders

Senders can offer recipients dedicated digital mailboxes – for example, through customer portals like BE-ePost from the Canton of Bern. These mailboxes are “Secured by ePost” and meet the highest standards of security and data protection. Recipients can also use the ePost app to receive all their digital mail in one central location – no matter who the sender is.

Who is the hybrid letter for?

The hybrid letter is open to both private and business recipients. Companies can already send and receive letters digitally. Private individuals receive letters digitally via the ePost app. Sending digital letters by private individuals is not yet available - but is planned in the medium term.
